It’s way past time to catch up. But it’s been another busy Fall and Winter season. So many changes… from your birthday at Great Wolf Lodge all the way up to Christmas and the snowless winter.
Let’s start with the BIG news…
Notice anything missing? 🙂
And now, here’s a summary of the other things we did at the end of the year:
REN FEST
This year we went with our friends JoAnne, Thomas, Leah and Austin Schommer. As usual, we hammed it up on Pirate Weekend, but it was even more fun to have a full crew with us this year.
Just me and me Cap’n causin’ trouble.I’M ON A PONY, YO!Uh, what officer? I was just HOLDING this for my mom.Yarrrr. A devlish pair we two be.
FALL FUN
Mr. Joseph was dressed funny for your second piano recital, but you took it all in stride. You also jumped around in the leaves at home and we went apple picking at Larriland Farms again.
Off we go to load up on apples…Let’s see… this one. (nom nom nom) or…Making my best SKELLY FACEHey Mom! You’re a natural farmer.NOT scared. Okay, maybe JUST a little.
HALLOWEEN
We went all out this year and had a house with ghosts and ghouls. Halloween night was fun too, because the Schommers came out with us again. You had such a haul that we STILL have candy through January. You went to Dean and Mandy’s party with mom and dad (it was an 80’s party); Mommy was “Punk Rock”, Daddy was “Goth” and you were “80’s Rock”. But for Halloween you told us you wanted to be a black cat, so you were.
As you can see, Dad goes a little overboard on the sideboard.ROCK AND ROLL!Do you know how much I had to pay for front row seats? But I got it for YOU Mom.Who’s a handsome kitty?
BIRTHDAY & Williamsburg
Your sixth was a pretty low key affair, since we travelled to Great Wolf Lodge with our friends. A crazy fun time filled with Magicquest, your first crack at a waterslide by yourself and some laser tag in the room (thanks to Colin and Beth). We also did our “traditional visit” to the Yankee Candle Company, where you loved to sniff every candle in the store. AND you saw Santa. AND we’ll never eat at a Taco Bell again…
Me and Dad time.BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS.I’m all ears… get it?COLIN AND BETH!Just a little warm up…The gang’s all here!Would you like your picture with me Wiley? I AM famous…BIRTHDAY SURPRISESOpening the lewt!Even MORE presents?Does that chest have more presents for me?A fine aroma…MOM. CHECK OUT THIS AROMA!Wait. What does “monkey in the middle” mean??Dude. You spelled it wrong.Handsome in a Tam too…Lay it on me, Santa.
CHRISTMAS
Santa was practically following us this year. But that’s okay. He fulfilled your wish of a Wheel of Fortune boardgame and so much more. We feasted on Chinese food on Christmas Night and saw the 34th Street lights again this year, but added the Charmery to our Baltimore Christmas tradition.
I see you EVERYWHERE!Santa must be cold. He’s not moving. Can I live here? (Then eat my way out?)Silly Elf on the Shelf!PRESENTSCookies for St. Nick.A note from… Santa? TO ME?Wheel… of… I MAY FAINT.YES. YES. YES!CROC!BOOM. WHEEL OF FORTUNE FTW.If you need me, I’ll just be down here solving puzzles.Did you think I was Santa, Mom??
NEW FAMILY
You also got a BRAND NEW cousin; Todd and Emily’s daughter, Kate Elizabeth!
Wait. I’m related to that baby??
HAPPY NEW YEAR
You stayed up (well, WOKE up) to celebrate New Year’s Eve this year and boy was it fun.
“Or Durves” for dinner? What’s that mean?WHOO HOOO! 2017!‘Fetti!
Fall of this year was pretty crazy. Renaissance Fest, Halloween without Mommy, you finally participated (a little) in your school pageant, and you got a visit from Grandma and Grandpa on your birthday weekend.
Then came the holidays. Thanksgiving at home, Hanukkah with Brandon and Maureen, another pageant (where you did participate) and Christmas with the sniffles.
It all began with a little trip to the Ren Fair with our favorite pair, Colin and Beth.
Hangin’ wid my posse.A ROSE madam, if ye can reach it.
Closely followed by additional piracy and the looting of candies. Unfortunately, mommy had to travel for an emergency, so it was just the boys on Halloween.
Skeery punkins(Not sure what you meant here… didn’t want to find out.)Why YES, I am a handsome rapscallion.YARRRR I SAY.AVAST! THERE BE CANDY.Creepy how?
Then a visit from Grandma and Grandpa. Some dancing was done and then a birthday was celebrated.
Grandma and GrandpaNo, I’m not… yaaaawwwn… bored with you folks at all.HEY! It’s MY BIRTHDAY!Number Five!It should come as no surprise that CAKE is why we do this…Ah, the lewt!Yes, I know it’s DARTH. But Dark sounds cooler.
Shortly thereafter, we settled in for some days off and vegan food. You had your school pageant (where you faced the opposite direction of everyone else), but you DID know all the words to the song. In fact, you wrote them for dad when you visited his office.
Vegan? Oh, yes.So good my THUMBS even approve it.Look, let me write it down for you, dad.
From there it was holiday shopping and decorating.
I’ve fashioned my very own Pope Mobile.Let me show you how it’s done, mother. What can I say? I am a growing machine!
Then off to get Santa pics and even more SHOPPING.
What do you mean, “good side”? They’re ALL my good side.A beautiful mommy. And hey… mine. What do you mean we’re not supposed to PICK em?
Your big brother and his wife came to teach you about Hanukkah. You loved the lighting of the Menorah.
((I can’t find any pics on my phone. I’ll have to upload those later))
Then suddenly it’s CHRISTMAS. Presents, a trip to see the lights on 34th Street in Baltimore and a special treat – ICE CREAM at a place called the Charmery (GREAT homemade ice cream) because it was so very hot this Christmas.
Uh… paparazzi, can you give me a second to wake up?YESS! What is it?Diner kit? TIme to start Campbell’s Pizza officially!Jeopardy Calendar? Oh, Santa. You SO get me!MALEFICENT ON THE COVER? None else matters.‘Scuse our mess. We just opened the diner.I am putting the WHY in DIY.Some more lights on 34th Street.34th Street in BaltimoreIce Cream in winter? THANK YOU, CLIMATE CHANGE!
Other significant occurrences in this period:
You saw FOUR more movies at the theater: The Peanuts Movie, Good Dinosaur, The Chipmunks Road Chip, and Star Wars: Force Awakens (which you BEGGED to see and absolutely loved). You also let daddy know that going to the movies is your new favorite thing to do.
You learned what curse words are and you know better than to say them. You also know a range of “bad words” which aren’t as bad, but you still correct us if we say: “Shut up”, “Idiot”, “Stupid”, or “Crap”. On the OTHER end of that, you let one of our friends know that you know but could never say, “Duck spelled with the letter F” and when your shocked parents asked how you knew that word, your reply was, “Probably on YouTube.”
Your Wheel of Fortune obsession has waned. You still love game shows though and often talk about going to California to see Sony Pictures Studios.
There was a weird moment where you PANICKED when you heard “kids music”, but now you just tell us you don’t want to hear it. Your musical tastes are pretty eclectic, but OTHER than kids’ music, you’ll listen to nearly anything else.
You want a puppy. You love the neighbor’s dog and tell us all the time how you are getting one…
Your hair cutter is named Tessie and so is the dog next door. To distinguish which, you’ve said, “Tessie snip snip or Tessie woof woof?”
For some reason, NOW you’re a picky eater. You don’t like finishing breakfast this month and you’d FAR prefer a desert (in the form of a cookie) vs. eating anything healthy. When you’re old enough to read this, I hope you know what Mom and Dad fought you on this one.
We have a lot of friends in our lives, but you are absolutely locked into Colin and Beth. They love you too. 🙂
This installation is about your FIRST trip to Disneyworld!
Just you wait. THIS is an epic Campbelltime.
We took a vacation this week and boy, was it a big one! We flew to Disneyworld to spend three days playing around in Downtown Disney and two of the parks.
Our flight was on Delta (your favorite airline) and you weren’t disappointed when the flight attendant gave you extra mini-pretzels. Once we landed, we were off to Port Orleans Riverside on the Magic Express. Our room was pretty far away from everything, so we got our exercise going to a from the restaurant, pool and busses.
Excuse me while I land this plane.Bus rides, too? I’m in heaven.I’ll wait here while you pay for stuff, k?Nice bed. Where are you sleeping, Mommy and Daddy?(What? You thought I was kidding?)
— DAY ONE —
On the very first hour of our first day you ran and skinned your knee. Fortunately, it didn’t bother you for more than about 10 seconds. You were up and running again after a nice concierge gave us a band-aid with some neosporin. We tried to take a dip in the pool, but for some reason you weren’t terribly fond of it (Not to say you were afraid, but after about ten minutes you clung to Daddy and repeatedly said, “All done”).
Mommy wanted to see the Disney Boardwalk, so we decided to start there. It was so hot, we decided maybe that was a bad idea. We ate at the ESPN restaurant and later, you got a little ice cream scoop. That made it better. You also wore a floppy hat that Daddy got for you in the gift shop, so you weren’t roasting.
Wait a minute. These leaves are REAL.
We decided that a day walking around Downtown Disney might be more fun and we were right. When we arrived, you stomped around on a fountain that narrowly drenched you at every step. Then we went to a place that lets you make your own t-shirt. You got one that Daddy put together; a skull and crossbones with the phrase, “Adorable, but still dangerous”. We bounced from shop to shop. You were particularly fond of T-Rex cafe (didn’t eat there, but did get a dinosaur), the Lego store and you f0und butterflies at the Rainforest Cafe. Most importantly we got you the classic set of Mouskateer Ears with your name on the back.
OH. Water! Let’s see if I can get wet.Where’d it go and why does my butt feel cold?Just so you’re properly warned.
After a short meltdown before your nap, we took a boat ride back home to let you cool off a bit. It was a good idea, because when you woke up we went back to Downtown Disney and ate at Raglan Road. There were Irish dancers there and you turned on your “Campbell charm” and got to join them for a jig. Not that you danced much, but you did make an impression.
So, em, are you into younger men?
Later, we learned about Hidden Mickeys (Mickey faces tucked away in some less than obvious places). Mommy found one on the shelf and YOU found one in the drawer pulls that looked like keys. Your keen eye continues to astound us.
My secret discovery!
— DAY TWO —
The next day, it was off to the Magic Kingdom where you got to wear your new floppy hat and use your Disney Magicband (you loved it all day long). We got there very early, since Mommy and Daddy heard we could enter the park an hour ahead of non-resorts guests. However, that information was wrong so we had to wait in front of the hot gates. You were a little antsy, but once we got in we went straight for Adventureland where we boarded the Jungle Cruise. From that moment on it was a BLUR.
What’s next?Uh… I’m a friend, Mr. Elephant.Look, Mom. Jungle!
We rode the Aladdin’s Flying Carpet (probably your favorite ride of the day), went to the Tiki Room (where you weren’t very impressed), walked through the pirates area, but Pirates of the Caribbean was closed. So Mommy went for a ride on Splash Mountain while you and Daddy went to Brer Rabbit’s house.
RIDE MOMMY RIDE
After that we went to see Ariel in the new Little Mermaid’s “Under the Sea Adventure”. It was such a mellow ride, we made our way to “Storybook Circus” to swoosh around in a plane with Goofy. This was your very FIRST roller coaster and while you screamed a little on the first hill, you seemed to be enjoying it with a wide grin (later however, you told us it scared you just a little bit). Once around Storybook Circus, it was back to the Haunted Mansion which didn’t seem to bother you at all.
Helloooooo Mermaid!OK, snack secured. Let’s roll! We’re not going in that canon are we?
Finally, it was time for LUNCH! We had a great Italian meal at Tony’s (the restaurant where Lady met the Tramp). Almost immediately you were ready to go, go, go. So went we did to Tomorrowland. You were all adrenaline when we got to Buzz Lightyear’s “Space Rangers”. Buttons, aliens, buzzing noises and a huge prop sketch tool kept you completely engaged. You loved the ability to control the spin of our car. We needed a little break after all that action, so we took a breather on the People Mover. Even though we thought it was low key, you had a blast as we toured Tomorrowland from above. Just after that we got a laugh with Mike Wazowski on the “Laugh Floor”, where you started to get a little tired.
Itsa TONY!Hey, I’m trapped between two Goofies!Nice view. Uhmm…
We worked our way back to Adventureland where you took a nap and Daddy watched a show with Jack Sparrow. Mommy took a well earned rest too. Since we hadn’t really seen Frontierland, we leisurely strolled around while you napped and ended up back in Fantasyland. When you awoke, we had a quick snack near Gaston’s Tavern (a new part of Fantasyland) and tried to queue up for Dumbo. Sadly, rain clouds were bearing down, so it closed. That seemed like a great time to see “It’s A Small World” and you enjoyed the shapes and slow pace of the boat ride, since you were still just sort of getting back into the groove.
Who you callin’ dumb?
The rain came down hard and made it difficult for us to do much more, so we scooted over to Pooh’s ride. You had a great time in line, since you could play with beehives, smash screens that looked like honey and you laughed at how Pooh spelled it (HUNNY). The rain didn’t stop. It got worse and worse, so we skittered back to Tomorrowland which had better cover. We also tried to have a quick veggie burger, but the restaurant was so packed people were sitting on the floor.
Mommy and I had a clever plan. We ran back across to Buzz Lightyear to dry off a little and you got to push buttons again. As we rode it a second time, your new found power of cart spinning was in high gear. You almost made us all dizzy.
Finally there was a break in the rain and we had that veggie burger, but the stormclouds made it difficult to ride some of the things we’d planned. It was such a full day, we headed back to the resort wet and tired but thoroughly entertained.
Let’s live HERE Daddy.Nice hair, old man!Me and Mommy loving the rain.Goodbye, Magic Kingdom. See you next year?
— DAY THREE —
So this was the day we thought would be mostly for Mommy (she’d never been to Epcot before either). What a surprise when we found there was SO MUCH for you to do. We started by having a leisurely breakfast, as going early did us no good the previous day. You and Mommy had Mickey waffles which you gobbled up with glee. And we boarded the bus at a more reasonable hour with a less pushy crowd. Good thing, because when we got there, most of the guests had poured into the park. Within moments, we were in line for Spaceship Earth and on the ride in five minutes. The mixture of animatronics and color kept you engrossed, so we knew it was going to be a pretty good day.
Mickey Waffles, FTW!
The ride changed QUITE a bit since Daddy last saw it, and when you descended from time and space, the screens in front of you asked what sort of world you wanted to live in (Mommy answered for you both). Once we made all our selections, it showed YOUR faces on people in the future. Surprisingly, when we got OFF the ride, there you were on the globe in the main area! It was filled with futuristic games and you almost didn’t want to leave.
TOP OF THE WORLD, MA!
It was a special Garden Month at Epcot, so there were topiaries galore. What made it even more fun for you was the abundance of BUTTERFLIES everywhere. We saw Goofy, Minnie, Donald and Daisy, each with some sort of butterfly. When we got close enough to “The Land” attraction, we decided to ride. Mommy loved how it talked about soil and conservation, you enjoyed the rows and rows of hydroponic plants, because you read every one to us. You also found a couple of hidden Mickeys on this ride!
Bushes I can wrap my head around.HIDDEN MICKEY!
From here we made our way to “The Seas” where we saw Crush talk to all the kids (a REALLY fun event, but we think you might have been too young to enjoy it). Mommy even got called out by Crush and he called her “Blondie”. He taught us how to speak turtle (Duuuuuuuude)and talked to us about other creatures of the sea.
Good timing, since we went to eat lunch early at the Coral Reef, which provided us a full wall sized view of an aquarium, We even saw a HUGE sea turtle as we ate. They prepared an AMAZING quinoa dish especially for your vegetarian need. We asked to speak to the chef (because we were so impressed) and as we complimented him, he complimented YOU on your sophisticated taste buds. You also amazed us by writing EPCOT. It was your first discernible written word.
Nice view. Can we move here?Of course I can spell. You’re surprised?
Off then to see Nemo; We followed his getting lost, him being found, then swimming with the REAL fish in the tank. Pretty amazing stuff. We spent even MORE time in the aquarium now that your interest in fish was piqued. You saw sea cows, a dolphin, manta rays, more sea turtles and a whole host of fish. We probably could have stayed there all day, but there was so much more to see.
Nemo… FOUND HIM!
Next was the Imagination Institute, where we rode through a demonstration of sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. Of course, our ride was hijacked by a little purple dragon called Figment who changed everything. In fact, when we went to the smell chamber, he made the smell of a skunk and he generally tricked us until the end. The ride dumped us out to the Imagineworks floor where you got to play musical instruments just by moving your hands, run around a lot, and saw tricks of light and color.
A figment of imagination?
Once outside again, we found a butterfly tent filled with bright flowers, butterfly sculptures and of course, butterflies. It was VERY warm, so we didn’t stay there as long as you might have liked. But again, so much to see!
Did I mention… BUTTERFLIES!!!!
It was getting late in the day, so we moved on to the International Pavilions; a group of tiny “worlds” dedicated to several different countries. Mommy had also started a collection of pressed pennies earlier in the day and it swelled as we walked through these realms.
We skipped Mexico because we had a fast pass to ride the Maelstrom. It was a ride in a Viking ship from the Norwegian Pavilion. Daddy thought it would scare you, but you seemed to take the trolls, polar bears and storm through the North Sea all in stride.
Norway. Yawn. What’s next?
We backtracked to Mexico where we took another boat ride, albeit much calmer, guided through Mexico’s sights by the Three Caballeros. You seemed to like the bright colors of fiesta and found several wheels.
From there it was off to China, but since there was no ride, we move through quickly. We did stop long enough to buy you a Chinese lantern which now hangs in your room. The weather started to look foul, so we donned our ponchos from the previous day (we bought them at the Pooh ride) and moved on.
OVER THERE. HURRY. We’re missing SOMETHING, I’m sure of it.
Around the bend was a trading post of sorts, but we skipped it. We all paused briefly in Germany as Mommy walked through a wine store. Then continued towards Italy. Along the way we saw a really neat model train and we took the time to see it. Again though, the clouds welled up in the distance and we saw rain, so we sought shelter.
Our journey stopped for a bit in Italy, where we sat under a canopy expecting the rain that never came. You and Mommy shared an Italian ice (that you let Daddy have a little taste of and it was VERY, very good).
I’ll finish this if you can’t.
We moved past America and into Japan, where we saw an art exhibit, but you seemed pretty bored and were getting tired. It had started to rain only slightly, so we continued our trek. Morocco was next and since we had dinner reservations there, we didn’t want to get TOO far, but the momentum was great, so we pushed on to France.
Lanterns here too?
There, you finally fell asleep and Mommy and Daddy tried some French wine. It was very good, as was Mommy’s French accent. The fellow at the counter wasn’t sure if she was French or Canadian! (She’s neither, but her accent is just that good). Mommy did a little shopping as Daddy rested his feet, then off to the United Kingdom.
Wow. Even the weather is authentic.
There, Daddy popped into the Rose and Crown for a pint, where he met a few people (Daddy does that everywhere he goes). When Mommy joined, she had a pint too and just in time. The rain came POURING down. You slept through all the noise and conversations. Finally, when there was a break in the rain, we all ran out to do some souvenir shopping. We bought a Union Flag for our basement, some uniquely British things and we practically stumbled on Christopher Robbin’s bedroom. Who was there? Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too! Just in time for your nap to end and you woke up moderately confused to be hugged by the pair.
Did I shrink in my sleep?? These stuffed animals are HUGE.
We braved another small rain shower and went to Canada where we spent most of the time in the gift shop talking to the Canadian girls that worked there. Then quickly back to Morocco where we ate at the Marakech. You LOVED the restaurant. The couscous was good, the music was great and there was a belly dancer. It gave the weather JUST enough time to calm down and after dinner the night was clear and cool.
“Creeeeeepy” (a direct quote)
When we left the restaurant twilight was setting in and there were numerous flames lit around the lake.
FIRE! FIRE!Moroccan Mint? I APPROVE.
We got a PRIME spot to watch the final lightshow for the evening and you stayed up WAY past your bedtime. But the look on your face when you saw that first big BOOM of flame and fireworks was worth it. Satisfied that we’d done everything that we could, we trudged back to the resort tired, happy and amazed by all we’d done.
And now for the BOOM.Fire… works… are… awesome.Satisfying!
It was, all in all, an epic vacation. And of course, we’re looking for the opportunity to do it again as soon as we can afford the time.
G’night EpicCot
Things that made us laugh:
You called Epcot “EpicCot”.
When asked on your way home what your favorite ride was you said, “the BUS!”
We suffered BAD turbulence coming home. You gleefully decreed “It’s like the Aladin ride” and was thrilled.
Easter arrived and with it, the Easter Bunny! You awoke to find a basket of goodies and were pretty happy about the whole thing. There was a Busy Bunnies book, some chocolates and your favorites, butterflies (these were the stretchy kind).
What’s all this then?Stretchy AND butterfly? Epic win.Happy Happy Joy Joy
Then you went downstairs to look on Daddy’s phone to see the Easter Bunny Tracker. When we finally found that he was already here, Mommy called us out into the yard where you tracked down all the Easter eggs. Apparently, the Easter bunny leaves money in the gold ones.
I think we have an Easter Bunny infestation!Wait. Was this from an Easter Bunny or a goose? And SILVER ON THE INSIDE? JACKPOT.
You were pretty good for most of the morning, but you really, really wanted to taste some Easter candy and so your Mommy gave you a little. But a little sugar is like a LOT to a kid who never has it. The day was a real rollercoaster.
Yesssssss… what mayhem for today?
You didn’t want to take your nap, you fidgeted and complained about snacks. You were even given to a bout of shouting (a rarity for you).
Why yes… em. My eyes are closed. Why do you ask??
Once you got out of your shower, into your jammies and brushed your teeth, all the Easter madness was over and you settled down once more into the great kid we know you to be.
(But seriously, you ran Daddy ragged on that Sunday).
March might have been an extension of winter, but on St. Patrick’s Day weekend you had two very special visitors to warm you up: Mimi and Doc! They hadn’t seen you for a while and it was very exciting. They brought you a special shirt just for St. Patricks, which you wore very well.
I’m ready for my close up…
While they were here, Mommy and Daddy slept in your room. Of course you loved sneaking in bed with us. You proved you have your Mommy’s sleeping disposition though, when I tried to wake you up before you were ready.
Get… Out…
We also took Mimi and Doc to some of your favorite places; Pasta Blitz, Eggspectation and Bean Hollow.
Doc and Mimi at Eggspectation.
You almost drove Doc crazy with your ability to keep taking off your gloves faster than we can put them on you. But you made Mimi happy by playing puzzles with her. While we were in Ellicot City, Mimi almost bought an antique chair, but Mommy did buy a piece of art for the house. It was a short visit and you were very sad to see them go.
I LOVE THIS GAME!Don’t worry Mimi. I can fix this.
When spring weather finally arrived, it did so with a nice series of warm weekends (we’re not going to mention those two days where it rained like a monsoon and that one day when it snowed again). So we’ve all tried to use them to maximize our fun.
I call this look, “Spring Steel”
Mommy replanted her AeroGarden plants so they would produce tomatoes and peppers all summer long. You were immensely helpful, carrying shovelfuls of dirt to new pots, helping put the spikes in and generally holding on to things Mommy needed you to hold on to. You also ate one of the very not ripe tomatoes and decided you really shouldn’t have.
No, mommy. Like THIS…Sun… so… very… bright.I dub thee, “Sir Clummpa Dirt”.GARDENING HANDS!Under ripe tomatoes. Not as tasty as you’d think.Hey! This IS my sniff face.It smells like… (nom nom nom)
This past weekend we went to Washington DC to see the Cherry Blossom Festival. It was packed with people, but after a long walk up and down the Mall, we saw the Martin Luther King Jr. monument, The Korean War monument, the Vietnam War Monument and a LOT of cherry trees. We even sat for a bit in a glade as you shook the mature blossoms off some stems, ran around a lot and met some new friends. On the way home, we stopped at Starbucks near Laurel and you amazed us with a trick.
With a simple flick of my wrist…Cherry blossom or CHEERY blossoms?A blossom in the hand is worth…well, I dunno but it’s fun.NICE! But where are the cherries?Do you know a fellow named Brandon, by chance?First trick? Balancing act…And for my next trick, I’ll make the apple disappear.
Finally, this weekend we went to the Maryland Zoo’s “Bunny Bonanzoo”. You hunted some Easter Eggs (not much of a “hunt” really, but more like a harvest), traded them for some chocolate and then we were bored with the Bunny Bonanzoo. So we went over the hill and into the zoo to ride a train, pet some goats, see the elephants (where you fell asleep), and then Mommy and Daddy continued to walk, seeing giraffes, an okapi, and a great chimpanzee exhibit.
Look out eggs. Here I come. The HaulfIf this were a crime scene, it’d be an open and shut case.
They’re all empty? I’VE BEEN DUPED!No butts about it, goat.So what would you like brushed? Teeth or back?TOOT TOOT. The Zoo Train has left the station. This is my devilish face.
But tomorrow is the big day! Easter. What will the Easter Bunny bring??
This Sunday we all went to Port Discovery (the Baltimore Children’s Museum). It was Daddy’s first time, but you and Mommy were veterans.
When we first arrived, you immediately wanted to go to the Royal Farms “store” where you are allowed to “shop”. Mommy has trained you well, since you only went for the healthy options and it sure looked like you were checking out the nutrition facts (you do know where the label is… you read it on food at home.)
So, what’s the carb count on this?
Then we checked out a sand room, you played a butterfly launch game, we explored an ancient Egyptian dig site and then chilled out in the Oasis room (a nice little place for us to slow it down, paint rocks with water and read some Curious George books).
Butterflies!Zen sifting. Shhhhhh…Surely there is treasure SOMEWHERE here.
While you were playing with the paintbrushes, Daddy noticed a terrible little habit he passed down to you ; when you concentrate, you stick out your tongue. Daddy does it, Mimi (Daddy’s mommy) did it and so does your oldest brother Brandon.
I’m painting this one to be a rock.Must… focus…
Later you went to the water play room where you had a great time shooting water at drums, playing with Lego boats and generally getting wet. It’s always a hit, but Mommy has done this before. She brought an extra pair of pants and socks.
YES! AUTHORIZED SPLASHING!Long and tall!At this rate, I could be a plumber.
When we were all done we decided to explore JUST a little bit more and made our way to Little Italy where we ate dinner. You were a perfect gentleman, ate your own gnocchi and charmed the lady next to us. Turns out, she’s the mommy of a movie star, but you’d probably never seen her.
The good food.
A little more about you:
You continue to really enjoy your vegetables.
You know right from wrong, but sometimes, decide to do the wrong thing for a laugh.
Your favorite show is Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.
You’ve really enjoyed playing with your new Thomas the Train set.
Curious George has now dominated your evening reading time.
You zip up your own jammies and try your best to put on your undies alone.
Today was Thanksgiving and we all have a lot to be thankful for. Since you came home to live with Mommy and Daddy on this day three years ago, so much has changed! We’ve lived in three different cities across three different states, you’ve learned how to spell like a champ and you’re finally wearing UNDIES!
Undies: Helping free me up to build things…
Today was really fun. You got up early and watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade with Daddy while Mommy made breakfast. Then we all played with Legos for a little bit. We had a light lunch and while you napped, Mommy and Daddy did a little more unpacking around the house.
Well, we’re WATCHING it. Why wouldn’t I spell it?
After you woke up and had a little snack, we played some more and you were very snuggly. You even took some pictures with Daddy’s iPad.
Not bad! Work it Dad! WORK IT!
Then it was all sticky goodness as Mommy made some icing and we decorated a gingerbread house Mommy assembled while you were sleeping! You seemed to be far more interested in tasting our materials than decorating with them. But it came out just fine.
Just a little touch up…HEY! We’re decorating with food. What do you EXPECT I would be doing? So, can we eat this yet?
Finally, we had a Gardein roast (all vegan, for Mommy’s sake) with yummy vegetables for our Thanksgiving dinner. We had apple pie for dessert with a little bit of ice cream and you told me what you were thankful for!
Before bedtime, you and Daddy built a Lego Thanksgiving to remember the day. There was a table with food, a big TV (for watching football, though we never did) and a stove with apple pie on it (that was your idea).
The day, captured for all eternity!
Every day you remind us what we’re thankful for, Campbell!
Today was the Pride Parade and Festival in Loring Park. So Mommy and Daddy, knowing how much you like butterflies (and lanterns) figured there would be plenty for you to see today. AND since we went last year and you had such a good time at the playground, we took you to the same one.
Let’s investigate, shall we?The intrepid explorer surveys the ascent.I can see my house from here!If I START here, do you think anyone will notice?Mommy has blue hair. And you love it!
It’s been a VERY busy month. Below are just some of the fun things we have done so far:
We spent LOTS of time at playgrounds and with sidewalk chalk. And why not? The weather is great!
Yarr. I be the scourge o’ tha play yard. Not now. I’m spelling.Nicely done mommy. Now watch this…Wait, I NOT supposed to erase sidewalk chalk with my butt?
You and mommy went to Toddler Tuesday where you caught prizes at the “Kiddie Carnival”.
When in MinnesotaAren’t I supposed to release this toy?
We walked 3 miles, up and back our street while it was close for the “Open Streets” festival. We also at at World Street Kitchen TWICE because you liked it so much the first time.
Butterflies & Lanterns spotted, Captain!ON YOUR LEFT!
And you’ve really started to act much more like a BIG boy. You’ve been sitting in booster seats more than high chairs and you even have tried (pretty successfully) drinking from an open topped cup.
Drinking like a BIG boy at the World Street Kitchen.BOOSTED!
You have enjoyed lounging around as well as playing. You really love your new travelling chair that Grandma Yeoman got you.
Living the dream.PERFECT!
You also started a new game with daddy called “Kangaroo”, where you call it out and he has to jump three times. As you can see, it makes you VERY happy.
JUMP FOR ME MINION!
Most importantly, you’ve started reading like CRAZY and spelling things. So much that we got you TWO sets of magnetic letters. You entertained Daddy this weekend by spelling “hip hop” on your own…
I’m working on my novel…It’s a bunny rabbit thing. You wouldn’t understand.
It’s been so cold that you haven’t had the chance to get outside. And since you were sick, we’ve curtailed your play time a little. But have no fear, Campbell Batman is here!
I’m Batman!
Today you and Mommy met Daddy at the Common Roots Cafe, where we had our afternoon snack, then came home to play outside!
See? And all without a laser level. So about this Messy MacGee character we discussed…And if I keep digging, treasure?Green? Spring? Yeah, makes sense.Yes. Better. It matches my cape.Enough kickball! PINE CONES!
You tried to sit in every chair, collected pine cones, kicked a ball with mommy and had a great time. You even went sans pants while you played with Legos because it was naturally warm in the house.
Pants free Legos = Warm Weather
Since Daddy will be in London next week, we’re going to the park tomorrow, so you’ll have a chance to stretch those quickly growing legs.
New accomplishments:
It’s almost gotten impossible to keep up with your new words. You can read about fifty or so sight words. And you know all of your ABCs including singing the song in the right notes.
You now make some pretty sophisticated jokes for your age, making puns from words and laughing about them (calling your protective “whale” cover on the faucet the “Whale of Fortune” and the diaper pail a “Diaper Peel”). However, you also think the word “poot” is funny and you try to do that on command. So we suppose it all balances out.
Songs you can’t get enough of ( & credit for who influenced you):
Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones (mommy)
Thunderstruck by AC/DC (mommy & daddy)
Skyfall Theme by Adele (daddy)
London Calling by the Clash (daddy)
Little Red Caboose by Buckwheat Zydeco (mommy)
Sufi Bhakti by Debashish Batacharya (daddy)
Pretty much anything by Beethoven (mommy)
Pretty much anything by Deadmau5 (daddy)
Gangnam Style & Gentleman by Psy (daddy, to mommy’s chagrin)
Easter morning was something special, because as soon as you got up, you got to scavenge the house for Easter eggs. Your Easter basket contained treats from the Easter Bunny and some things from your Grandma Yeoman. The eggs you found all over the house contained candy, some money and yes, even some Delta pretzels! Once you discovered there was loot in them, you didn’t hesitate to do whatever it took to crack them open
One for raiding, the other for collectingWhat’s all this then?I’ve found another!
As soon as the egg hunting was done, we spent the morning at the Science Museum of Minnesota. You had a really good time. You got to play with puzzles, see dinosaur bones, run around like crazy and push practically every button in the place.
A meat eater, you say?Levitation isn’t magic. It’s SCIENCE!Toddler? I am the TOPPLER!Hmmm. My super strength isn’t working on this massive chain.
You also made a new sloth pal and were a little annoyed when I wouldn’t let you take him out of his “habitat”.
And I shall call you “Slothy”No one should notice that I didn’t come in with these…
Once finished with the museum, we grabbed at bite at the Wild Onion in St. Paul, where you did a great job eating a grilled cheese without cutting it up first. You also got a new nickname (Messy MacGee) which you thought was hilarious as mommy cleaned you up.
