Discovery Day

The infamous TONGUE!
The infamous TONGUE!

This Sunday we all went to Port Discovery (the Baltimore Children’s Museum). It was Daddy’s first time, but you and Mommy were veterans.

When we first arrived, you immediately wanted to go to the Royal Farms “store” where you are allowed to “shop”. Mommy has trained you well, since you only went for the healthy options and it sure looked like you were checking out the nutrition facts (you do know where the label is… you read it on food at home.)

So, what's the carb count on this?
So, what’s the carb count on this?

Then we checked out a sand room, you played a butterfly launch game, we explored an ancient Egyptian dig site and then chilled out in the Oasis room (a nice little place for us to slow it down, paint rocks with water and read some Curious George books).

Butterflies!

While you were playing with the paintbrushes, Daddy noticed a terrible little habit he passed down to you ; when you concentrate, you stick out your tongue. Daddy does it, Mimi (Daddy’s mommy) did it and so does your oldest brother Brandon.

I'm painting this one to be a rock.

Later you went to the water play room where you had a great time shooting water at drums, playing with Lego boats and generally getting wet. It’s always a hit, but Mommy has done this before. She brought an extra pair of pants and socks.

When we were all done we decided to explore JUST a little bit more and made our way to Little Italy where we ate dinner. You were a perfect gentleman, ate your own gnocchi and charmed the lady next to us. Turns out, she’s the mommy of a movie star, but you’d probably never seen her.

The good food.
The good food.

A little more about you:

  • You continue to really enjoy your vegetables.
  • You know right from wrong, but sometimes, decide to do the wrong thing for a laugh.
  • Your favorite show is Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.
  • You’ve really enjoyed playing with your new Thomas the Train set.
  • Curious George has now dominated your evening reading time.
  • You zip up your own jammies and try your best to put on your undies alone.

The Holiday Whirlwind

Just chillin' with Santa
Just chillin’ with Santa

It was a very busy holiday for us this year. You got to see Santa TWICE, you had a visit from family and you got to see the White House and New York all in the same week!

Soon after Thanksgiving we bought a real Christmas tree (you helped pick it out) and decorated. Mommy went all out this year because of our new house. She has a lot of Disney ornaments that she dusted off JUST for you and we hung them from the bannisters so you could see them every day. We also took a trip to the Columbia Mall to see Santa Claus where you told him you wanted a “guppy” (actually a Betta fish like we had in Minnesota). You also told him that “zombies have beards too” which Daddy wasn’t sure was a win or failure, but it was funny in any case.

Later in the month, but before Christmas, Grandma and Grandpa Yeoman from Indiana came to stay with us for the week, so we decided to show them a little bit of the East Coast.

Our first short journey was to visit the White House and see their Christmas tree. We met a lot of really nice people and did a good bit of walking. But boy the things we saw! Not only did we see where President Obama lives, but we saw trees for every state, a display of trains around the National Tree and you got to see Santa AGAIN! This time we visited him in one of his temporary workshops and he was just as kind and fun as ever.

On the next day we took a very short trip to Ellicot City and had lunch at one of our new favorite places, Bean Hollow. We walked around a little more, did a little window shopping, and like magic, it began to snow in big fluffy flakes. That night, you opened a LOT of Christmas presents with Grandma.

The following morning we had an early breakfast and took a train to New York. You did a great job on the train ride and you seemed to really enjoy it. It was a little hectic when we arrived at Penn Station, but once we got into the cab you had a blast. Your favorite thing there? City maps; a touchscreen showing all the fun things to do in NYC but of course, you just had fun punching buttons and seeing the screen.

Once we settled down in our hotel, The Ameritania, we decided to take a walk to see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Plaza. Getting there wasn’t so bad, but once we arrived it was packed tight with lots of folks who had the same idea. You fell asleep when we got there so you missed a lot of the hub-bub. We also got to see a great light show on the side of Sax Fifth Avenue, but we were worried for your comfort because it was quite cold. So we made our way back to the hotel and met up with Uncle Chad and Aunt Amanita for dinner. It was hard to find a restaurant that wasn’t a chain (we were in Times Square), but we walked around until we finally found a little Mexican place that we all enjoyed. Daddy took you to the toilet there where you insisted had a kitty on the wall, though Daddy never saw it.

The next day we went to Central Park where we bought hats, treated you to your first bagel (and you loved it) and decided to walk around a bit, even though it had gotten colder than before. You had a bit of a melt down because you weren’t allowed to use the swings; not our fault because the playground section of the park was actually closed for the holiday. Aunt Am had suggested we see the carousel, but that proved to be an even bigger disappointment for you, since it too was closed for the season (Aunt Am didn’t know). After a good cry and some snacks, you pulled it together and we warmed up in a visitor’s center, then headed to FAO Schwarz.

From a famous movie you say? I just thought it was BIG!
From a famous movie you say? I just thought it was BIG!

Once we were there you were amazed. We saw lots of toys and you even picked out a bear you wanted Santa to bring to you (a little “Wall Street” bear) and you even re-enacted a famous scene from the movie, BIG.  You were just about ready for a nap, so we took a break. But when you woke up, it was all adventure again. We went to the M&Ms store followed by a trip to the Disney store where you were enthralled by lanterns, you charmed the clerks out of several Monsters Inc. pins (especially, your favorite, Mike Wazowski) and Uncle Chad met us there to find some dinner.

He took us to a great place called John’s Pizzaria. There slogan was “NO SLICES”, which you remembered and said often. Uncle Chad also brought a Christmas present for you which you are still sleeping with; a monkey puppet called Bananas. After that we went to the Times Square Toys R Us where you, Mommy, Daddy and Uncle Chad wrote the crazy big ferris wheel (we got to ride in the Fire Truck car) and you saw a roaring T-Rex that was a little unsettling. Then back to the hotel where Grandma stayed with you a little bit while Mommy and Daddy met Chad and Am for a drink. What a wild two days!

Hey, Unca Chad! Help me terrify daddy up there!
Hey, Unca Chad! Help me terrify daddy up there!

The day before we went back, we squeezed in ONE more tiny adventure at the American Museum of Natural History. While it was crowded, we had a great time and you got to see Rose Space Center (where you learned about craters on the moon), the African Mammals room and we ate a quick lunch before running off to the train station. The trip home was not so bad, since you slept on Grandma most of the way. Before your grandparents left, we drove through the Symphony of Lights display (our second time, actually) where you pointed out the snowball throwing bears which you enjoyed BOTH times.

Mommy made a nice vegetarian roast for Christmas Eve dinner and the next morning, we awoke to see all the great stuff Santa brought! Thomas the Train, your FAO Schwarz bear, Bob the Betta fish & the movie PLANES! Later that night, we drove over to Baltimore to see the famous 34th Street lights and go out to eat Chinese food. It was the perfect Christmas.

The Amazing Maryland Move

Yes, I AM still handsome...
Don’t worry. I’m still handsome…

What a journey it’s been. We left Minneapolis behind us for the East Coast and so many tales from then until now.

You handled our flight out of Minneapolis fine. To keep the moving day from being too traumatic, you and Daddy went to Mall of America to enjoy the rides and look at all your favorite stores one last time; Rainforest Cafe, The Apple Store, Legoland and The Disney Store.

Mommy was brave and handled the move out single handedly. We all slept in a hotel the night before our flight and whoosh, we ended our Minnesota chapter just like that, but not without making some great friends that we hope visit us.

Ready for take off. No, seriously.
Ready for take off. No, seriously.

In our NEW home we spent the first month in a two bedroom, corporate apartment. Since we had very few of our things, Daddy bought you a small Duplo farm set which kept you fairly well entertained. Fortunately, too, was the proximity to the Mall of Columbia and the public library. You got your very first library card with Mommy and you both picked out books to read. You also started spelling out little sentences with your letters. Sometimes, to great comic effect, as the last picture shows:

Your recall is a thing of wonder. You are able to remember the tiniest details about places we went and things we’ve seen. One afternoon, you held your spoon up to your face and said you were doing Starbucks. We had no idea what you meant, until you finally got us to understand that you were using your spoon like the headsets used by the Baristas through the drive through.

Telling Daddy you're doing Starbucks...

We also took another trip to DC to visit the Smithsonian Museums. We only got through a couple because you were a little cranky and we were all very tired from the transition. As usual, your FAVORITE thing was the butterfly exhibit in the Museum of Natural History. Even though you were tired, you and mommy spent quite a lot of time looking at the hatching, flying and perching butterflies. Daddy waited for you two at the end of the exhibit, so we didn’t get too many pictures in there.

But wait, there's something else I haven't touched yet!

Daddy had to spend some time in New York for work so you and mommy went to the Baltimore Aquarium, the National Zoo and some other fun places. You seemed to adjust well to the new life here, except for some sniffles, which we feared might be allergies or the damp temporary apartment.

And before you knew it, we were closing on our house; OUR house. Dishwashers to buy, boxes to unpack (and we’re STILL unpacking boxes) and new hazards for you to navigate, but you seem to be handling yourself well. You even, uh… helped:

Look! We're buying a HOUSE!
Look! We’re buying a HOUSE!

MOST of our “fun time” has been going to Lowes, Best Buy, Target and Home Depot to buy the things we need to keep our home comfortable. And you particularly enjoy the trips to the new AMAZING grocery store near our house called Wegmans. It might just be your favorite place to eat, this side of Pasta Blitz (your other favorite restaurant which you fondly call “Booger Blitz” for some reason).

You still spend an a lot of time learning new words. Before dinner one evening you spelled “Westminster” as in Abbey. Something you learned from your London ABCs book. And you still tell me W is for “Wimbledon”.

Westminster? Easy...
Westminster? Easy…

All in all, you seem to like your new room too, which has an amazingly high ceiling. You also are an amazingly lucky kid because you have your own bathroom! Mommy decorated it with all Circo jungle stuff. You love it.

The latest things:

  • You have a wicked sense of humor and constantly try to crack us up.
  • You charm nearly every store clerk you meet by reading their name badge.
  • The words ‘boogers’ and ‘poop’ have taken on a whole new level of hilarity.
  • Speaking of poop, you’re doing an awesome job of getting to the toilet for that activity.

You continue to amaze us and keep us entertained. Looking forward to Halloween with you this year in our real neighborhood.

That’s the Truth, Duluth!

We decided to take a little trip on our long weekend for the Fourth of July.

Mommy booked a hotel in Duluth, Minnesota since we’d never been there before. It was the Holiday Inn and we had a pretty good view, even though it looked down over the parking lot.

Is that the Liftbridge?

Our trip was fun. Daddy goofed around with you while Mommy drove. You played your Nabi tablet much of the way and really couldn’t stand having your shoes on.

The next day (July 4th), we went to Canal Park.  We started by heading into a toy store that kept you interested for a while.  You also found some great fountains along the way and you practically begged mommy to let you get soaking wet in them.

You were dying for pizza (as usual), so we stopped and had some for lunch.

Before your nap, we went swimming. As soon as you got your swim diaper on, you were ready to go, but we had to make sure you were appropriately dressed. You joked around and had a great time in the kiddy pool with Daddy. You even swam with him (a little bit) in the big pool.

Later that day, we went to Two Harbors to see what was there. It had a small train museum, but you got bored with it quickly and had a minor meltdown. We had to get you some food quickly, so we went back to a place called Tom’s Logging Camp. It was a much better distraction, since you got to see lots of things and the cafe (called “Tom’s Too”) was nice, cool and quiet.

I'd like a ticket to Ontario, please!

Before we left, you mentioned that Vanna White was on vacation in Duluth. So when we got to the room that night, you decided you wanted to talk to here. Here’s the result:

A phone call from Miss Vanna.

Oh, Vanna, you are awesome!

The next day, we took you to the Lake Superior Zoo. It was fairly small, but you had a great time. You got to pet rabbits and goats. You saw a huge frog and turtle (not real ones) and you had the time of your life riding on a little “zoo train”. Even though it lasted less than ten minutes, you talked about it the rest of the day.

Finally, we ate some Indian Food, which is perpetually one of your favorites.

On Saturday we packed up and left the hotel, but the fun didn’t end. We decided to go to the old railroad depot in Duluth where there was a great train museum.  You and mommy climbed on trains and marveled at them while daddy shot pictures. There were all sorts of steam engines, train cars and machinery, along with an entire depot of “stores” which were decorated to look the way they would in the late nineteenth century. By the time we were done there, you were all tired out and had your nap too early.

We also went back to Canal Park for a bit and had some Vietnamese food which you seemed to like. We also went into a store called Spirit Bay which had some pretty crazy Native American stuff on the walls. You liked the buffalo the best.

On the way home, daddy made yet ANOTHER stop at “The Fires of 1918 Museum” in Moose Lake, MN. It was a small exhibit run by a local historical society, but you’d pretty much had enough of musty smelling buildings with antiques in them. And to be honest, mommy probably had too.

Yes, daddy... this looks great. *yawn*
Yes, daddy… this looks great. *yawn*

We also decided to stop at a convenient outlet mall to get you some new shoes, since your tennies had caused tiny blisters on your toes.  She also got you some new overalls and clothes which look great!

You had another meltdown which could only be settled by having a sandwich at the outlet cafe which turned out to be surprisingly good. We got to eat on a big, soft couch while watching Disney movies and you had a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.

The rest of the trip went smoothly and we spent the final Sunday of our little break at home.

Chicago : Part Deux

Ready for the road
Ready for the road

We went to see our sick friend Kris on May 17th. It was a sad trip, because we don’t think Kris will be well, but you really enjoyed visiting old friends like Uncle Iggy (Igor Davila) and your biggest brother, Brandon. And you were a travel champion, this being your longest road trip.

The trip was a lot of fun.  For our first night’s rest, we stopped in a hotel called the Arrowhead Lodge which had a big, orange moose out front. In fact, all throughout the hotel there were lots of moose that held your attention. We stopped to eat at a restaurant called the Roadside Grille which had surprisingly good food, but also had a stuffed cougar and bear that left Mommy a little taken aback.

The second day we pushed through to Chicago and stayed with Brandon and Maureen, who you still adore. They let us stay in Maureen’s dad’s condo on Lake Shore Drive. Even though it was a very high floor, Daddy chilled out (he hates heights, you see) and we had a good time there. Though not thrilled to at first, you warmed up to your Pea Pod and slept there much of the night. When you awoke, nervously crying out, Mommy and Daddy brought you into bed and you snuggled in with us.

You got to visit the Lincoln Park Zoo again but this time you were old enough to call out all the animals, pick where you wanted to go and got a great floppy hat to keep the sun off your face.

Later that day, we visited Kris and all our old friends at Samantha Sanders and John Farbrother’s house. You go to meet a lot of people and kept up a good front, but by the end of the day we were all very tired. The best part of the day for you was getting to play with Levi, Kris’s Labrador retriever.

That night we drove to Indiana to stay in the Raddison, where you were very interested in the front lobby waterfall and pool. The next morning we all got up and had breakfast with Grandma and Grandpa (Yeoman).

After we left, we drove back to Chicago to see our friends Matt, Lisa and Piper (who you continued to call “Baby Piper” since she was only 8 months old). We saw some amazing things in the museum; stuffed animals, bones, giant elephant and bioluminescent creatures. You got tired fairly early, so we left to drive across Wisconsin. One more night of hotels kept you entertained and then we went back home.

Things you say recently:

  • “That’s the rule. Mommy teaches me that”
  • “Listen to the drop on dubstep. Daddy talks about that”
  • You sing your ABCs with amazing precision and pitch.
  • You are reading like CRAZY. You read the book “Blue Hat, Green Hat” on first opening and knew all but ONE word.

Easter and a trip to the Science Museum

Happy Easter, you styling folk.
Happy Easter, you styling folk.

Easter morning was something special, because as soon as you got up, you got to scavenge the house for Easter eggs. Your Easter basket contained treats from the Easter Bunny and some things from your Grandma Yeoman. The eggs you found all over the house contained candy, some money and yes, even some Delta pretzels! Once you discovered there was loot in them, you didn’t hesitate to do whatever it took to crack them open

Why yes, I WAS eating crackers. How could you tell?

You’d think it was a quiet six weeks, since Daddy hasn’t posted anything, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

You’ve been a joyous handful these past few weeks, learning new words, expressing your sense of humor and generally being the amazing kid your parents expected.

Since Daddy went to London again, he asked what you wanted him to bring back. Your response? “Union Jack” and “Delta Pretzels”. You got a Union Jack pillow with a Yeoman Bear on it (since Mommy’s last name is Yeoman) and you loved your Delta pretzels.

You’ve also shown Mommy how a puppy eats, by putting your face into your food. While eating chili one evening, you even decided to show us your best “dog with a bone” face.

BOW WOW WOW!
BOW WOW WOW!

Most of the month was bitter cold, so much of our outdoor entertainment involved going to Mall of America to walk around. You did get to try sitting at the counter of a sushi restaurant (though you only ate tofu and beans), but you really enjoyed it.

SUSHI!
SUSHI!

You and Mommy went to Toddler Tuesdays there a couple of times and you continue to go to swim class, where this month you graduated to the next class. Way to scoop and kick! You’ve also started another music class where you’ve played the the triangle, rhythm sticks, the metallophone and the Irish harp. Mommy says the harp was your favorite so far.

On Sunday’s, Daddy has been taking you to Gigi’s where you love to color and eat fruit.

Now, to finish my masterpiece
Now, to finish my masterpiece

You also went with Mommy to eat at the Hard Times Café, which has a lot of vegan food (and vegan diners). When Daddy playfully asked her if she saw any “dirty hippies”,  you picked up on the word and spent the rest of the day (and lots of this month) using that line to get a laugh. When we told you “Dirty hippies just need a bath”, you decided they needed something else, evidenced in this video clip:

Valentine’s Day was a big win, with you receiving cards from Mommy, Daddy and both sets of grandparents. You asked Daddy to get Mommy a “heart”, so we bought her a beautiful glass heart that she promises to hang in the kitchen of our first house.

This weekend we went to the Home and Patio show at the River Center in St. Paul. You wanted to go see the butterfly tent, because we’d seen it on the news. And see butterflies you did! You told us your favorite was the “oranges” one.  And you even had some land on you. You also saw koi fish in a pond and was fascinated by them.

It’s almost too hard to keep up with what new things you say, since you say new things daily.  Some things to know however:

  • Your favorite server at GiGi’s Café is Jamie and we suspect you have a crush on her.
  • You have gotten into the really bad habit at bath time of laughing, saying “pee pee boy!” followed by peeing in the tub.
  • You color like crazy and have started making scribbles, pretending to write. You also ask us to write EVERYTHING.
  • When you see a word (in a book, on a sign, wherever) you call out almost every letter.
  • Flip cards are your favorite new things. Mommy bought some kindergarden level words to get you started (map, cap, nap for example) and you are tearing through them.
  • Your temper tantrums are there, but not as bad as other two year olds we’ve seen. And mostly only when you’re tired.
  • You still love watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Color Crew, Super Why, Wonder Pets,  Yo Gabba Gabba, and Elmo’s Potty Time (which, seriously, you must have seen about fifty times already).
  • You love watching YouTube clips of PSY singing Gangnam Style & the old internet meme Peanut Butter Jelly Time (apologies from Daddy).

You’re growing up so fast, but you ARE keeping us laughing the whole way.

We spent the last day of November and the first days of December on a little Chicago getaway. We had fun playing Tic Tac Toe while we waited for the plane. You did really well on the airplane, even though when we first got on, you were mildly panicked.

Our first night in Chicago was Friday and we were picked up at the airport by our old friend, Nick Hahn. We checked into the Hotel Sax where you made a new friend, Mr. Murphy, who helped us with our luggage. For the rest of the trip, every time we approached the hotel you’d exclaim, “Mistah Moiphy elevatah!”. You loved your free run of the room and the remote was your favorite thing to run off with.

We took Nick and his family (his wife Justine, and daughters  Quinn and Teagan) to eat at the Chicago Diner where we were joined by Jeremiah Lobdell, Daddy’s former intern. You LOVED the food at Chicago Diner and ate everything on your plate.

On Saturday we looked at the Christmas windows at Macy’s on State Street. We walked through Millenium Park, then we went to the Art Institute of Chicago, where you stomped around on the open deck at the Modern Wing and marveled at the art. It might have been Mommy’s favorite place we went.

We later met up with Igor Davila (aka Uncle Iggy) and Daddy’s old co-worker, Lisa Barlow. We later met up with Igor’s girlfriend Juliana and spent a little time at the Christkindlmarkt.

That Sunday we took the South Shore Line to see your Grandma & Grandpa Yeoman. They drove us to a restaurant in Valparaiso, IN called the Industrial Revolution where we celebrated your GREAT grandmother’s 93rd birthday. You had a pretty good time, because the restaurant had a train that circled above us. Before we left you saw Grandma’s Christmas lights in her yard. Later that night, we returned to Chicago and you were fascinated by the frost your breath made on the train window.

On Monday we had an AWESOME day at the Navy Pier Children’s Museum. There was SO much for you to do. We started with the Cardboard exhibit where you colored on nearly everything, you thrilled at knocking things over and went crazy over the spinning wheel that was in the room.

ImageImageImage

Next you had a blast pushing buttons and playing with the fire engine buttons at the Chicago Fire Safety exhibit.

ImageImage

From there we went to a water room where you painted with water, splashed like crazy and helped Mommy get Daddy wet!

ImageImageImageImage

Our next adventures took us to a room filled with tiny things where you enjoyed pulling out the drawers, an oversized garden where you got to be a butterfly, digging for dinosaur bones, shopping at a miniature store, and frolicking in a Northwoods style trail where you had a great time dropping whiffle balls down a track.

Later we walked through Navy Pier and bought some of that famous Garrett’s popcorn. At lunch, you did something we never saw you do before; fell asleep while you were eating! But it was a good nap, and after, we got our Santa pictures and you got to yell, “Hello Elf!” to his helper.

Image

Later that night we went to Chicago Diner again and met our friend, Paul Ripa who you delighted with your vocabulary and ability to high five.

On Tuesday we spent the day at the Lincoln Park Zoo. But before we went we walked up Michigan Avenue and visited the Mac Store, the Disney Store and The Lego Store in Water Tower Place (Your favorite? The Mac Store).

ImageImageImage

While we missed the Zoo Lights exhibit from the weekend, but there were still plenty of things to see and do. Youeven tried to “comfy, cozy” one of the huge lighting displays (but to be fair it was a teddy bear). And you really loved the freedom to run around in a zoo that was mostly empty because of the time of day we went.

ImageImageImageImageImage

We went to Pizza Due with Jeremiah, where we introduced you to deep dish Chicago pizza. Clearly, a favorite, since you ate almost a whole piece by yourself. You also solidified your friendship with Jeremiah. We walked down to the Chicago River and the Tribune building and Jeremiah took a great picture of the three of us.

Finally, on that Wednesday before we left, we spent some time with our friend Kris and his mother, Cheryl. They had lunch with us at Frontera Grill, a famous Chicago restaurant.

A busy week but a good one.

New things:

  • When asked your favorite DJ – “Dee Jay Dead Maaaussss!”  (Blame Daddy)
  • When asked your favorite music – “Bach”
  • You do a pretty good rendition of Jingle Bells
  • You’ve started making up songs and carry a pretty good tune for a two year old.
  • You recognize nearly EVERY brand the first time we tell it to you: The new ones are Einstein Bagels, Kare 11, Costco, Old Navy, Kirkland, Macy’s (“Red Star Macy’s!”)
  • You know where YOUR personal ornament is on the Christmas tree
  • You combine two words that you know don’t go together, then gleefully decree, “MAKE NO SENSE!”
  • You have a wicked sense of humor and laugh at things on TV (sometimes even when it’s not very appropriate, for instance this week it was flood victims)
  • And tonight you told your first fib: Mommy asked where the crayon marks on her desk came from you said, “Doc”. When she asked where all the crumbs came from, you said, “Elmo” just as convincing as you please.

Autumn Arboretum

Saturday was pretty quiet. We didn’t do too much that you haven’t done before; Mall of America and you went with daddy to Whole Foods (which you always like). But today we had a grand, fall adventure at the Minnesota Arboretum.  We’d gone earlier in the year, but it was the perfect time to go now, since the trees are all changing colors and pumpkins were everywhere. Even though you missed your late afternoon nap, you had an excellent time running in the woods (with a lot of hand-holding), investigating pumpkins and seeing scarecrows.

From my Autumn collection…
I’M RUNNING! I’M RUNNING!
Something about this one… different…
An adequate chair. I’ll TAKE it.
Not as bouncy as I’d hoped.
Ok. Now get a shot over here!
Somehow, I think this house won’t winter well…
(You kept saying, “Pickle! Pickle”…)
…and by golly, you were RIGHT. It DOES look like a pickle.

Reading, Huzzah, Batta-batta, Achoo!

HEY, I’M SNACKING here!

Well, what a way to end your summer! It’s been a very, very active last few weeks, so we have some catching up to do:

On the weekend of the 8th we packed in the fun by going to the Target Children’s Book Festival in Hyland Lake Park. While you LOVE books, there was not much for guys your size to do, so we spent a good amount of time either coloring or pushing you in the stroller while you continue the coloring trend.

Red is for Target! Lucky it’s your favorite color
Keep ‘er steady, mate! I’m colorin’!

That VERY next day, we went with our friends Paul, Kerry and Octavian Sage to go see the Renaissance Festival.

Sporting some pirate gear for Ren Fest.
Leader of the Sages, the Mighty Mr. Paul!

It was quite exciting, but pretty dirty too.  We did an enchanted forest walk which ended up making Mommy and Daddy (and at one point, Mr. Paul) carry your stroller up some precarious hills. You laughed like a little prince the entire time, happy to be bouncing up and down in your carriage. You met a pirate who gave you some of his gold.

Yeah, cute hat Pirate. Now gimme yer gold!

And you decided that you’d had enough just around noon, so you promptly conked out and napped for the majority of time left there. We also bought you a wooden boat from the same vendor as last year (who made your awesome pirate bath time boat).

Yes… let’s go see the… Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You went to swimming lessons the next week and had your usual great time. You ALSO surprised us when instead of waiting for Mommy to slice your apple at dinner, you just grabbed it and tore into it like a little man.

Slices? We don’t need no stinkin’ slices!

Not long after, we got a visit from Mimi and Doc! They came to see you because you were supposed to have surgery, but it got postponed. And good thing too, since you, Mimi and Daddy all got sick that week. But it didn’t stop you from enjoying all the new toys Mimi and Doc brought you.

ELMO! BIG, BIG WIN!
Ok, Mimi… now read this!
Doc, being very silly… and dangerous.

BEFORE we all got sick, we took Mimi and Doc to Mall of America where we visited Legoland. We also went to Kokomo Cafe (where you’d eaten before), and you decided a fistful of ketchup would look great in your hair. Needless to say, it was a pretty short trip.

What? I can’t wear it too?

On that Sunday, we took you to your very first MLB game where we got to see the Sox pummel the Twins. Of course, you spent most of the time coloring the Twins coloring book, but you did a great job of handling a long day of sitting down. After the game was over, we went to Champp’s for a celebratory veggie burger.

OK, sister, now sing “Take me out to the ballgame”.
Here Mimi! Have some germs!
Ballgame? I thought this was the world's largest coloring festival.
Ballgame? I thought this was the world’s largest coloring festival.
Hey! Where's my Old Style?
Hey! Where’s my Old Style?
GO SOX!

For the rest of the week we recovered from our illness.  On Friday, Mommy took you to get a haircut.

Since we were feeling a little better this weekend we took Mimi and Doc to French Country Meadow for breakfast, then went to the art museum. We didn’t stay too terribly long, but it was a lot of fun. Mimi and Doc enjoyed watching YOU enjoy art, playing in the kids’ area and just being your charming self.  You were tired and so was Mimi, so you went home with her and Mommy to take a nap, while Daddy and Doc went to shoot some pictures downtown.

Hey mom! YOUR turn for germs!
Art criticism is genetic…

Tomorrow you’ll get to see them again and I’m SURE we’ll have more adventures to talk about.

New words this month:

  • Honeydew (spoken flawlessly)
  • Meat (followed by, “no meat! Beji, beji” for veggie, veggie)
  • Beer (Hmmm… maybe it was that Ren Fest we took you to?)
  • Grapes (pronounced, “Guuk”, but we understand what you mean)
  • You know almost ALL of your colors (“Wed, Boo, Puhpah, Back, Geeeeeen, Yehyoh”)
  • Keypad, Keyboard and Apple TV (which sometimes comes out “Appa Tee vee Dee Vee Dee”)
  • You say “Beep beeeeep!” when you hear us activate the car alarm (which does actually beep)
  • and actually, you repeat pretty much EVERYTHING you hear now…
